Taleen Najarian, PT, DPT

Empathy and compassion are values experienced early in my childhood. As my older brother had cerebral palsy, I witnessed first hand his journey through surgeries and rehabilitation. I not only played the role of little sister and sidekick, but physical therapy assistant.

As an avid athlete throughout my schooling, I battled injuries and the mental stress of sports performance in gymnastics and soccer. In high school, the perfect storm of events led to a bout with an eating disorder. However, it was recovery that truly shaped me to be an empathetic and mindful practitioner today. It took a team of healthcare professionals to address all facets of the disorder, the psychological and the physical. I have had patient experiences with medical doctors, functional medicine doctors, chiropractors, psychologists, energy healers, and acupuncturists. Each encounter has taught me what type of practitioner I want, or do not want to be. My observations and frustrations with regard to the delivery of medicine have fueled my desire to change traditional healthcare.

As a graduate of Oakland University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program in 2012, I emphasize the importance of manual therapy in practice. I have continued to develop skills in soft tissue therapy, dry needling, applied kinesiology, nutrition, and strength training. I also take great enjoyment in being a teaching assistant in the Physical Therapy Department at Oakland University. My approach to treatment is to consider the entire person, encompassing all body-systems, as well as the mental aspects of injury and dysfunction.

Emily Calligan, PT, DPT

Dr. Emily Calligan was born and raised in a suburb outside of Detroit, Michigan. She grew up swimming, participating in triathlons, playing lacrosse and weight lifting. She attended Grand Valley State University where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in exercise science with a clinical emphasis. She then went on to pursue her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Oakland University.

Throughout her graduate work and professional career, Emily has worked with a variety of musculoskeletal populations and is experienced in handling sports specific injuries, pre and post operative patients, and patients with neurological deficits.

Emily’s passion is to treat patients in order to restore their mobility, strength and function so they can get back to doing the things they love. She enjoys working with a broad population and working as a team with the patient in order to achieve their specific goals. She does this with a variety of techniques including manual work, functional massage, Graston technique, kinesiotaping and a variety of other Orthopedic Manual Therapy Techniques (OMPT). Additionally, Emily is certified in Integrative and Neurologic Dry Needling (IDN), which is beneficial in the treatment of systemic soft tissue pain and dysfunction.

Lindsey Barnhart, PT, DPT

I have always loved being active. Growing up I played soccer, basketball, track and cross-country. When I tore my ACL and meniscus, I experienced physical therapy first hand and also discovered a career path. Now as a physical therapist, I get to know my patients and encourage movement in a safe and functional way.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in human biology from Lyman Briggs College of Health Sciences at Michigan State University. Go Green! In 2017, I received my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Wayne State University. My passion was not only in treating, but in teaching. I have been lucky enough to pursue my love for teaching in two realms. In the clinic, I teach my patients to understand their bodies, the anatomy, how they move, and how they respond. I also teach a Human Anatomy lecture and lab for the Doctoral Physical Therapy program at Wayne State University. Our bodies are fascinating and I will never stop being in awe of all they do.

To be a good teacher, one must also grow and learn. Since graduating I have also received certifications in Rocktape, Hawkgrips instrument assisted soft tissue, and Master Dry Needling.

Lauren Michon, PT, DPT

I first became interested in physical therapy in high school when I was a track and cross country runner and dealt with sports injuries. Eventually the root cause of those injuries was discovered, and I underwent two surgeries to correct hip dysplasia while in college. My time as a patient in physical therapy amplified my excitement about the field, and I wanted to learn as much as possible while recovering!

I went on to graduate from Oakland University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in health sciences, and again in 2020 with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. During my time at Oakland, I was able to participate in research regarding patients with hip dysplasia, as well as serving as a research assistant for an oncology rehab specialist. I had clinical experiences in hospitals and outpatient settings, but found my passion in orthopedic manual physical therapy.

Since graduating, I became certified in Integrative Dry Needling, HawkGrips (IASTM), kinesiotaping, and have taken courses for Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training and cupping. I believe in a holistic approach to care, and value empathy, compassion, and education. I love seeing my patients return to the activities that bring them joy!
